Returning
to Search Engines
You
may still be unclear on why you would use a search engine?
Search
engines are extremely useful. They help you find web sites, information,
phone numbers, people and many more things.
Here
is a list of some questions you could search for with a search
engine
-
What was the most popular girls name for the month of May 1924?
- Who is Fred Astaire?
- How can I lose weight
- What is the safest automobile?
- How do I cook oysters
- Where does Fred Smith live
- How do I find out my phone number
- What happened in 1914
- What's the web site address for Barbie Dolls?
- What colour do I get when I mix red and blue?
Let's
take one of those example questions, put it into a search engine
and see what we get.
Here
you can see I've used the example question 'what is the safest
automobile' and entered it into the Google search engine.

And on the next page you can see the results that I got from asking
the search engine the question.

The
results the search engine returns are what it thinks are the most
relevant results it could find, based on the question asked.
As
you can see I have pointed out all the results the search engine
gave us back. You can click on each one of these links to visit
different web sites.
I
hope this example has illustrated how useful search engines are
and how you can use them to find things on the Internet.
In closing..
Well
now you know what the address field is within your web browser
and what a search is and what it does you can pretty much start
surfing the Internet.
One
of the best ways to learn how to move around the Internet and
how to use your web browser and other software for that matter
is to just give it a shot.
So
give it a go, go and visit that web site and read that web page,
stop paddling and start surfing.
